Here is a shot of the major trophy winners in Newarks Annual Exhibition.  The gentleman in the jacket is Newarks Mayor, Councillor Tony Roberts MBE  (MBE is an award for service to the country and recognises his service in local politics for many years …… the initials stand for Member of the Order of the British Empire ……… (OK, so we no longer have an Empire, but the awards still get issued!). – Peter Yeo

Joel Sartore to headline UNL environmental week

Joel Sartore (Courtesy Photo) – National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore will give the keynote lecture for Focus Nebraska, a week-long celebration of Earth Day at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Sartore, of Lincoln, will talk about his work as an international photographer and the effects of climate change he has documented.

The Association of the University of Nebraska and the Environmental Resource Center are organizing the celebration, which will include bike rides, faculty talks, films, tree planting and art exhibits, to educate students, faculty and the community about climate change and the environment.

Thursday, April 21st at 7:30 p.m., Sartore, Great Plains Room, East Campus Union.

Exhibition Opens: August 28, 2011

Beginning March 1, 2011Hildegard Center for the Arts invites all professional and aspiring photographers to participate in an exciting photography competition.  Open to ages 15 yrs. and up, artists are called to submit their original photographs of sacred and spiritual art and architecture in and around the Lincoln area (within a 10 mile radius).  * Photos may also include labyrinths, cemeteries and even spiritual gardens.

All Faiths and World Religions will be celebrated! Photographs will be formally juried and the winning entries published in a book and exhibited for display the day of the Lincoln Spiritual Art Tour, Sunday, August 28, 2011.
