Board and Committee Members present: Angela Carroll, Jim Atkins, Susan Ellis, Karen Harris, Jim Budka, Dennis Zabel, Donna Gustafson and Bev Mazur.
President Carroll called the meeting to order in her home.
Minutes – the minutes were approved as read.
Membership Report – Karen Harris reported that we have 27 members.
Treasurer’s Report – Karen Harris presented the treasurer’s report. A motion was made and seconded to approve the treasurer’s report. The motion carried.
Review and Evaluation of the May Salon – the program was good, the location and food were good. It was a little pricey for some members. The board will look for less expensive locations for the 2013 May Salon. Valentino’s, Hy-Vee and a catered meal at the Eastridge Presbyterian were suggested. The board discussed having a print competition as well as a digital competition.
Competition – digital image competition will begin in September. Teri King will contact judges.
Children’s Zoo Project Update – Jim Budka, Jerry Jensen, Rebecca Hueske and Darrell Watts will work on June 20. Jerry Jensen, Bev Mazur and Rebecca Hueske will work in July. Jerry Jensen and Rebecca Hueske will work in August.
Programs – Clark Springman will show members how to mat photos for the county and state fairs at the July meeting. Angela said that we also would critique the photos that members bring to the meeting. We will give a door prize to one of the participants in the critique. The winner of the critique contest will get a prize. The goals for this program are to help members get entries ready for the fairs and to learn how to judge photos. A motion was made and seconded to spend $10 or less for the door prize and $15 for the prize for the critique winner.
The August meeting will be a potluck dinner for members and their families. It will be Sunday, August 19 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Stransky Park. Our program is outdoor portraiture with Steve Hike. The rain date is August 21 at the Eastridge Presbyterian Church. The club will buy the fried chicken and provide drinks. A motion was made and seconded to buy the chicken and drinks. Susan Ellis will ask Patricia Saldana to present a program in the fall. Angela Carroll will ask Bryan to present an astrophotography program.
Angela suggested that we showcase youth photography at some of our meetings. We will invite a youth photographer to bring some of his/her work to one of our meetings.
It was suggested that we have a basic indoor portraiture lighting workshop at one of our meetings.
Angela will ask Matt Elwood to speak at our Christmas Dinner.
Angela suggested that we have a speaker from the Journal Star talk about photojournalism at the 2013 May Salon.
Angela suggested that we invite the Berean Church Camera Club to one of our meetings.
It was moved and seconded that we give our speakers a $25 gift card. The motion carried.
Fund Raising Ideas – Angela will plan a “call for photographers” photo show next year. Photographers will pay a fee to submit photos in the contest.
Old Digital Cameras – Jim Budka delivered our old digital cameras to the City Mission. They appreciated the donation.
Lincoln Arts Council – Bev Mazur reported that Doug Smith from the Lincoln Arts Council asked if our club would take copy photos of public art in Lincoln. Angela will call and ask him to provide an information sheet to our members who are interested in this project. She will also ask him if we can have a booth at the Southpointe Art Show to display our work.
